What is a Name Server?

A name server is like a directory that tells the internet where to find your website. When someone types your website's address (like www.example.com) into their browser, the name server helps direct the request to the correct web server where your website is hosted.

Here’s a simple analogy:

- Website Name: www.example.com (like a person’s name)

- Name Server: Tells the internet where to find the person’s house (the web server)

How to Change Name Servers

Changing your name servers is usually done when you switch web hosting providers or need to update your domain’s settings.

1. Log In to Your Domain Registrar:

- This is the company where you registered your domain name (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.).

2. Find the Name Server Settings:

- Look for something like “DNS Settings,” “DNS Management,” or “Name Servers.”

3. View Current Name Servers:

- Here, you’ll see a list of the current name servers for your domain. They often look like ns1.examplehost.com and ns2.examplehost.com.

4. Enter the New Name Servers:

- Get the new name servers from your web hosting provider. They usually provide at least two name server addresses.

- Replace the old name servers with the new ones by typing them into the appropriate fields.

5. Save Your Changes:

- Make sure to save or apply the changes. This might be a button labeled “Save,” “Update,” or something similar.

6. Wait for Propagation:

- It can take some time (up to 48 hours) for the changes to propagate (spread) across the internet.

7. Verify the Update:

- After some time, check if your website is working with the new settings by typing your domain into your browser.

That’s it! You've successfully changed your name servers.
